A Moment I Won't Forget
During one lesson, a student suddenly understood a new concept, stopped, and called out to her mom, “Hey Mom, I just did something super cool in math!” Moments like that are why I love what I do.
Personalized math tutoring builds confidence and helps students succeed.
I help students discover that math doesn't have to be overwhelming.
Hi! I'm Emilie Hathaway, the founder of Math Uncomplicated . My goal is simple: to help students understand math, build confidence, and realize they're capable of far more than they think.
I started Math Uncomplicated because I believe every student deserves the opportunity to experience success in math. One of my favorite moments as a tutor is seeing a student go from saying, “I don't get it,” to “That actually makes sense.” Watching that confidence grow is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
I believe learning happens best in a patient, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Whether we're preparing for a Regents exam, reviewing classroom material, or getting a head start for next year, every lesson is personalized to meet students where they are while helping them build understanding, confidence, and independence one step at a time.

My passion for teaching math comes from both my professional background and years of working with students. I've had the opportunity to apply mathematics in engineering, education, and one-on-one tutoring, giving me a unique perspective that I bring to every lesson. Whether I'm helping an elementary student build a strong mathematical foundation or preparing a high school student for a Regents exam, my goal is always the same: to help students understand math, build confidence, and discover that they are capable of success.
I worked as a Systems Engineer with Lockheed Martin and L3 Communications, where I developed analytical and problem-solving skills that continue to influence the way I teach today.
I have more than seven years of professional math tutoring experience with students from elementary school through high school.
I work with students of all ability levels, from those who need extra support to those looking for additional challenges.
I earned a B.A. in Mathematics & Physics.
Whether you prefer the convenience of online tutoring or meeting in person at the Ballston Community Public Library , lessons are designed to fit your student's needs.
“Wish I found you years ago.”
“She enjoyed it today and said she would like you to be her teacher all the time.”
“Very kind and patient... and knows her stuff!!”
